Fermentation Fest: A Live Culture Convergence

September 18, 2012

If you’ve joined the flock of fermentation enthusiasts, here’s an event brewing in neighboring Wisconsin brought to you by Wormfarm Institute.

Join us from October 12 to 21 for Fermentation Fest: A Live Culture Convergence, where farmers, artists, chefs, poets, canners, eaters, and cheese-makers will converge in Sauk County this fall to celebrate food, farming and fermentation–in all its forms.

With over 30 classes and events that range from chocolate-tasting and yogurt-making to Kombucha-brewing and sourdough bread-baking, there will be plenty to taste and see at the fest. Sandor Katz, featured speaker and New York Times bestselling author of The Art of Fermentation, will teach two classes on fermentation.  For the full line up of events, and to sign up for classes, visit  The registration deadline for most classes is October 1st.  Hurry–classes are filling up fast!

The Live Culture Convergence will also feature the Farm/Art DTour: a 50-mile self-guided backroads tour by car, bike or buggy through the beautiful, unglaciated hills and valleys of Sauk County punctuated with temporary art installations, field notes and farm stands. Home to Aldo Leopold and his land ethic, a viable and diverse farming economy, award-winning cheese factories, artisan whey production, an established art studio tour, Amish bakeries, craft brewers, an energized local food movement, and a legacy of self-taught artists–these hills too are alive!

Fermentation Fest is a Wormfarm Institute Initiative.  The Wormfarm Institute is an award-winning non-profit organization working to build a sustainable future for agriculture and the arts by fostering vital links between people and the land.  Generating, supporting and promoting these links among our creative selves, our work and our place on earth are essential for a thriving community.

Volunteers are needed as early as September 29th!  Please email if you are interested in lending a hand.  We hope to see you there
