Un-yielded by Heat, Unfazed by Weeds

July 6, 2012

Last Wednesday, 11 members of Shalom Community Garden braved the equatorial heat to prepare communal plots for the planting of donated seedlings from Shady Acres Herb Farm.

As the heat index hovered near 100 degrees, the gardeners mercilessly worked to clear a plot of seemingly infinite, unwanted weeds.  In two hours, they had tamed the thicket and planted a total of 128 starts (peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, basil, oregano, etc.)!

Because of the generous assistance of these die-hard gardeners, it’s quite likely that Shalom Community Garden will be able contribute a considerable amount of fresh produce to Waite House, a local food shelf located in the Philips neighborhood of South Minneapolis.

Thanks a lot to everyone who helped us out!
