Our Community Orchards’ Program is a Green Awards Finalist

April 23, 2011

It’s official. The Minnesota Project’s Community Orchards, a Fruits of the City program, has been named one of three finalists in The Green Awards by Green Giant. A huge thank you to all of you who supported our efforts through on-line voting!

The Community Orchards program was named a finalist in the Green Local Organizer category, which received more than 40 submissions. We have been invited to an awards ceremony in Los Angeles in mid-May, when we will find out if we are the winner of a $25,000 grant. The funds would be used towards the establishment of five new sites, which would provide over 830 family servings over the next 20 years. How about them apples?!

Other categories in The Green Awards include Green Civic Leader, Green Entrepreneur and Green Parent.

It is also wonderful to see the Upper Midwest well represented as finalists, including:
• Green Civic Leader, Mayor R.T. Rybak, Minneapolis, for Nice Ride Bike Share;
• Green Entrepreneur, Matt Zanetti, Minneapolis, for A New Way to Move
• Green Entrepreneur, Will Allen, Milwaukee, WI for Growing Power Expansion.

We are honored to be in such company!
