Rush City Orchard Gleaning, A Photo Recap

Over 80 volunteers participated at our Rush City orchard gleaning in late August, picking a total of nearly 8,000 pounds of fruit!  Here is a photo recap of the event.

When volunteers arrived and signed in, they were given heavy duty gleaning bags.  The bags unclasp so that gleaners can transfer their apples into a box.

Throughout the morning, trucks came by to drop off empty boxes:

And to carry away full ones:

Some volunteers picked high:

Others picked low:

One even juggled:

But mostly we just picked:

A few for ourselves:

Almost all of the apples for Second Harvest Heartland, our event partner, to distribute:

At the end of the morning, Second Harvest transported the fruit back to its warehouse:

If orchard gleanings sound like a good time, stay tuned: we are planning additional opportunities with Second Harvest for late October.
