625 Pounds Picked

Here’s an update on our gleaning progress. So far, we have donated 235 pounds of plums, 130 pounds of pears, and 260 pounds of apples to area food shelves.

Plums picked Saturday, August 14 were brought to Keystone Community Services Food Shelf.                     Photo by Ellen Peterson.

That’s 625 pounds out of our goal of 22,000 lbs. We’ve got a long way to go and only about 6 weeks of the season left, but we’re confident we can do it with your assistance! Gleanings are continuing throughout the season on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. We also have a large scale Orchard mob August 21st in Rush City, where–with a large team of volunteers–we hope to be able to pick thousands of pounds of fruit. We still have 46 openings for volunteers that need to be filled on that day.

Additionally, we would also like to thank all of the tree owners that have donated their fruit to us and our wonderful volunteers that have helped pick the trees. We couldn’t do it without you! Because of your efforts, many Minnesotans with limited access to fresh, healthy food will now get to experience the luxury of locally grown fruit.
