Chef-to-Chef Days at Farmers Markets this Summer

We had such a great response from the Chef-to-Chef event at the Craftsman in March- we’re planning more!  In collaboration with Edible Twin Cities and Minnesota Cooks, the Heartland Food Network is planning a series of three local food networking and learning discussions for chefs this summer. This time they’ll be with farmers- at farmers markets!

Chefs, caterers, school food service directors and farmers are invited to join the conversations to discuss the “whys and hows” of using local food. Discussions will be held near the farmers markets (see locations below), and led by experienced chefs.  We’ll talk about how to find farmers, menu planning, payments/invoices, tracking your purchases, marketing your use of local food, etc.  Farmers are welcome to attend this portion as well.   After about an hour or so of discussion, the market manager will lead us on a guided tour of the market and introduce chefs to farmers at the market who are interested in selling their products.  Chefs will leave with personal connections and resources to start buying more fresh, local products. And it’ll be fun!

As an added bonus- HFN will list all attendees on our the website and this blog, to let the public know what restaurants care about sourcing from local farmers.

All events are free, but seating is limited and an RSVP is required to secure a spot. Come to one or all three!

Mill City Farmers Market
Conversation at Mill City Museum featuring guest chef Jenny Breen
Followed by tour of Market led by market manager. Stay for the chef demonstrations at the cooking stage.

Tuesday, June 29th, 1:30pm-3:30 pm
Midtown Farmers Market
Lunch and conversation at Gandhi Mahal Restaurant (3009 27th Ave S) featuring guest chef Ruhel Islam
Followed by tour of Market led by market manager. Stay for a cooking demo at the market by Chef Ruhel Islam at the cooking stage.

Sunday, July 11th 9:00am-11:00am
St. Paul Farmers Market
Conversation at Golden’s Deli featuring guest chef Jim Golden
Followed by tour of the Market led by market manager

    Hello. We are here 7 days a week with more local farmers and more varieties than anyone else in Minneapolis.

      Thanks! Minneapolis is a great farmers market with a great selection. Hopefully next year we can work with you to bring local chefs into your market as well!
