Want local food? Attend Farmer/Buyer Speed Dating Event on 11/30.

November 17, 2009

The Heartland Food Network, a program of the Minnesota Project, is a co-sponsor of Renewing The Countryside’s upcoming Farmer/Buyer Workshop on November 30th.  This event is  hosted by Renewing the Countryside, Minnesota Grown, Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.

This workshop is a great opportunity to grow Minnesota’s local food economy and for regional growers and buyers to make connections.

FARMERS will be able to find buyers interested in purchasing their products for use in restaurants, stores, schools and hospitals.  Two Minnesota school districts have already confirmed their attendance so there is a great opportunity to meet buyers!

For FOOD BUYERS looking to go local, this is an invaluable occasion to meet future suppliers face-to-face and learn about the products they offer.  Farmer owned co-ops representing multiple farms will provide a one stop shop for purchasing local foods.

Creating these connections mean more money going directly to farmers and allow institutions to support a fair food system in which consumers know where their food is coming from, and how it is produced.  In addition to networking sessions, this event also offers several discussions on important issues to local food systems.

Tickets to this event are FREE for Heartland Food Network members and available for only $10 for producers or chefs.
